Field of Study: Chemistry/Paranormal Science/Ecto-Plasmic Studies
Theme Song: Can't Hardly Wait
CJ would be considered the brains of the team--if he didn't have so much fun doing his job. He was born in 1979 in Crawley, West Sussex, England, to an army colonel and housewife. The Londons bounced around Europe wherever Colonel London's job dictated, ultimately settling and returning to the United States in their home area of Fernandina Beach, Florida in June of 1983. CJ has always maintained the memory of a dark incident that unexpectedly occurred on the day of his arrival, as well the worried and panicked looks of the people around him as he and his parents waited at JFK International Airport. Claims of a then unknown terror had originated in the northeastern Tri-State Area, with heavy emphasis on New York City. An unrelenting influx of paranormal phenomena had gripped the greater East Coast and put a terrified America in a state of wide scale red alert. It was believed that something horrible had entered our world, a traveler…a destructor. CJ remembered one word that an off-duty steward had uttered that he didn't think much of at the time and not yet understand: something about "Ghostbusters".
His childhood was not a happy one; his parents separated when he was six and he lived between both his mother and father on and off until he was sixteen, after which he lived with his mother and older brother, Will. He escaped into a dreamlike world filled with superheroes thanks to a healthy dose of DC and Marvel Comics. His two favorite heroes were Green Lantern and the Flash. His interests in film noir and detective fiction were also nurtured around this time. He is especially a fan of the works of William Gibson, Raymond Chandler, and Isaac Asimov. He also became a lifelong fan of Japanese animation, in particular Star Blazers, Voltron, and Robotech. By 2005, he had traveled to Japan with fellow Ghostbusters Rob Statler and Salina Duran.
Because of his jaded outlook on life early on, CJ developed into a nihilist, believing that real heroes were dead and the world was doomed. In middle school, he was considered one of the many social outcasts. His brother Will tried to help him, but CJ refused his counsel. That is, until CJ's freshman year of high school, where he and three of his friends were involved in an occult ritual that, at the time, CJ thought was inane and joined in only to ridicule. The results backfired, and, with the exception of CJ, all were supposedly killed. He would later come to learn that their souls were cursed to forever wander the earth, neither dead nor alive. Will London found his brother in a coma; CJ did not awaken and remained unconscious for several hours. When he did, his eyes had taken on a blank complexion, which over time reverted back to their natural color. He was catatonic for a few months following the incident. He spent the following two years admitted to the care of various mental hospitals, subsequently losing many of his supposed close friends. Though, the failed ritual had a produced a profound effect on his attitude. He graduated with a 3.38 from his high school in 1998, enrolling in Stanford University the following fall. There, he met Gabriel "Hide" Tanaka for the first time, a Science/Psychology major who would become his roommate and later his co-worker. Despite his near-brush with death, CJ continued to look more into the supernatural, albeit with a stilted point of view so as not to make people worry about him. Some parts of his old personality came back (the sarcastic slacker).
He joined the Florida Department of Extranormal and Paranormal Activities in late 2001, following the death of his brother Will at the hands of a demon known only as "The Fantom". In a simple twist of fate, this would be the same otherworldly entity that, at that point in time, was in pursuit by a certain Dr. Andrew Williams. Alongside fellow Stanford graduates Hide, Joey Hightower, Zak Kong, and Rachel Gleason, he would be a part of the field team of the FDEPA, working primarily as detectives than eliminators. He developed a crush on co-worker Rachel Gleason, even though she was involved with his friend Zak at the time (this relationship ended shortly after CJ left the group in 2004).
As the lead scientist for the Ghostbusters Doom Patrol, one could say that he is the Egon of the team. At times most dire, he certainly is. Other times, he would be regarded as the youngest acting of the group. His favorite battlecry is "Poozer!" a reference to Green Lantern Kilowog's favorite insult. He has shown on numerous occasions to be cool while under pressure and has a distinct analytical mind on par with Phillip Marlowe and Lew Archer. On occasion, he has also been known to enjoy pop music, the late Sheena Lyndon in particular. He is not particularly fond of the late hours Ghostbusters keep. Although he is not technically proficient, he aids teammate Rob Statler with designing and building the team's equipment.
While investigating a recent attack on the Doom Patrol, CJ was fatally wounded and banished by Adrik Thorsen in early 2006. His body was never recovered and is presumed deceased.
